Dave Bopp’s colorful works with acrylic resin paint on aluminium leave the viewer disoriented and wondering. The cut-out fragments, which are scattered over the surface of the aluminium base are kept in a state of implosion and explosion simultaneously. Oscillating between foreground and background, these dense webs invite the recipient to take part in an infinite discovery.

A slight twitch. A brief shiver. Those are the symptoms while trying to fathom the distance of the earth to the galactic centre. At first this mental experiment on self-orientation might seem trivial. Nonetheless, it leaves me curious just as it awakens my will to exploration. I would have loved to become an astronaut. My studio is my laboratory. Here I invent pictures – my approach is both very ludic and free, yet empiric and systematic as paradox as it may sound. This is possible in the world of art. My studio is the space, in which I make my own discoveries in the course of the creative process, which is characterized simultaneously by action and experimentation. I believe that the most important aspect of my artistic procedure is to initiate internal dynamics within each work. Therefore I use painting techniques and computer based programs. The symbiosis of both analogue and digital tools allows me to derive the material for finding forms and images directly from painting itself. For me, painting is an essential means to materialize an idea. It contains the potential of both absolute reality and of being the simulacrum of one’s imagination. This ambivalence is exciting to me. It leaves traces; in my pictures and in my relation to the environment.
